Course description
In TECC (Tactical Emergency Casualty Care) life-saving techniques and strategies from TCCC protocol are used to provide the best care system in a civilian tactical context, due to multiple casualties or MASCAL emergencies such as attacks of various kinds (explosions, active shooters, investments).
The TECC tactical medicine course provides a unified tactical and medical doctrine, as effective and safe as possible for all those involved in the rescue chain such as Law Enforcement, Military, Fire Brigade, Healthcare, Private Security.
TECC recognizes three distinct phases:
- Threat Care – rescue/care provided while under attack or in adverse conditions
- Threat Care – rescue/care provided while the danger has been neutralized, but may still reoccur
- Evacuation – rescue provided while the injured person is removed from the incident site
This 24-hour theoretical/practical program, spread over 2 days, addresses topics that aim to reduce mortality in tactical situations, including:
- Hemorrhage control
- Application of MARCH
- Venous and intraosseous accesses
- Strategies to treat injured rescuers in hazardous environments
- Pediatric patients
- Techniques for casualties transport
TECC intent is to standardize the approach to the injured by the various kind of rescuers during unconventional events or situations (multiple casualties or MASCAL emergencies or terrorist attacks).
During the course, each individual figure within its intervention group, has its own specific role (clearly coded in the TECC guidelines), but such roles must be able to be interchangeable if the need arises.
Healthcare Personnel: Responsible for advanced patient stabilization, it operates in a safe area.
Fire crews: responsible for transport of the injured from the high-risk area to a safe area. They are able to care for casualties with basic techniques. Trained to recognize if the casualties need advanced interventions.
Law Enforcement Personnel: responsible to secure a high-risk area and protect the safe one. They are able to care for casualties with basic techniques. Trained to recognize if the casualties need advanced interventions.
